Making our party green
Making our party green PDF Print E-mail

Earthdance Johannesburg is an environmentally responsible party, inspired by the EcoGatherings initiative. EcoGatherings seek to reverse the ecological impact of social gatherings and increase social awareness of environmental issues.

We are committed to ensuring that our party does not leave a negative impact on our small blue planet.

Here's some of the stuff we're doing to minimise our footprint:

- All flyers are printed by Deep Design (www.deepdesign.co.za) on paper made from waste material, using vegetable-based inks that don't use excess water and don't release VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) during the printing process.

- There will be a full array of recycling bins available at the venue.

- We have encouraged food stall holders to make use of sustainable, recycled plates, cups, knives, forks, etc. from Green Home (www.greenhome.co.za).

- We have actively encouraged food stall holders to focus, where possible, on locally grown, organic vegan and vegetarian foods as these have the smallest possible environmental impact.

- We have committed to staying at Smoke, our new venue, for as many Earthdance festivals as possible. This will allow us to slowly and incrementally build permanent, sustainable infrastructure on site (like composting toilets, naturally heated showers, etc.), instead of having to rent disposable, wasteful items that have to be transported and installed year after year.

- We will actively promote and educate on green, sustainable initiatives wherever possible at and around the event (for instance, via the movies and talks we're hosting in our consciousness space).

- Bring interesting waste along to the party and you can collaborate with our on-site artists in waste-to-craft recycling :-)
